Weather continues to be excellent with flat seas, clear skies, and sunny. We had another good day of fishing, with limit style fishing on Yellowtail and Yellowfin tuna.
Most of the Yellowfin were in the 22 to 30 pound range, and some going 50 pounds. The Yellowtail were just beautiful fish, with most of them in the 20 to 30 pound range, and a few going over 40+ pounds. We also caught a handful of Dorado and 5 Wahoo.
Our passengers are just loving the weather and fishing. We are making a move to Alijos rocks, and we will try our luck at some larger Yellowfin tuna, and hopeful some Wahoo. So wish us luck and we will keep you posted on our daily events. The R/p crew.

We spent the night out at the bank looking for some big Yellows. It was scratch fishing but the grade was very good. There were a few during the night and a nice bite in the early a.m for the big Tails. We came back to the Rocks and started looking around our hot spot of yesterday to find it void of life and very little sign anywhere around the Rocks. After trolling and looking for a couple of hours we found a small spot of Tuna and set up on them. They did not respond very well at all. The day was very slow with only a dozen nice Tuna and a few more Yellows, so we have opted to head inside to do some exploring around a nice temp break looking for some Dorado and Wahoo before we go fishing for more Tails. Wish us luck
Fish counts were up. Then down. Over the last week. Saturday morning left me wondering if I really wanted to do this. My last two off-shore trips this year had been a bust...
The call of the sea was more than I could resist. I met up with a couple of friends in Costa Mesa to carpool the rest of the way to the landing.
Our luck seemed good right off the bat. After a traffic tough ride down on Saturday night we pulled into the lot, crowded with cars idling watching for people leaving on the right. We went left, and around the far end, a truck was backing out! We parked and walked to the boat. They were there, clean and ready to board a few minutes after 7:00. We grabbed our gear and stowed it, after agonizing over the staterooms (high up and in the bow) and with rumors of moderately rough seas, chose bunks below in the open berthing area. Then ran back for fish tacos. With everyone on board, all 27, we were off and headed for the bait docks a little after 9:00.
Our crew for the trip would be Captain Tim and Captain Jack on second. We had Cory cooking up great food for the weekend, with a tray of cheese and crackers for us in the evening, and Aaron and Dave on deck. The game plan was a spot about 60 miles out that had been the hit or miss, with about the only hits, for the last week. We'd be there by gray light. Trolling had been minimally successful, but the captain encouraged anyone who was interested to try, with their own gear, or the boat's gear. The recommendation was 25 # line and up... their last trip left an angler with light line fighting a large bluefin for nearly two hours... while everyone else watched.
