Today our open party trip to Catalina Island enjoyed excellent weather and pretty darn good fishin again. We ended up with 4 White Seabass to 28 lbs, 6 Black Seabass (released), 5 grumpy Sand Bass, and a dozen or more Calico Bass, and 21 Barracuda ! A regular Bass kickin Day !!! With the four White Seabass we caught today, that brings our season total to 300 White Seabass on the nose !!! Now that calls for a beer or two, but first, we must complete one more worthy goal, and that is to escort a group of swimmers, who will be making the unbelievable Catalina Channel crossing tonight, all in the name of charity !!! Thats right, Options Sportfishing is proud to help raise some $16,000 to the Breast Cancer Angles, and will accompany these brave young men on a 15 hour swim from The Isthmus to Long Beach !!!!! After the race the beers will flow and we will take a well deserved week off to be with family and celebrate a couple of birthdays. Until next time, good fishin !! Capt Tino.

We currently have 100 fish onboard and plenty of time left to get some more. There are some yellowfin tuna and bluefin tuna mixed in. The weather is calm and so we plan to stay in the area and try tomorow. Hopefully it isn't a flash in the pan. More later, Capt Art

Commander Tim Starn manages a multi-police agency air unit that provides service to the cities of Costa Mesa, Newport Beach and Santa Ana. He has been in law enforcement for 25 years, the last six in the air unit. When Starn needs a break from the rigors of police work, he turns toward the sea and fishing.
Starn, an accomplished angler, wanted to pass his passion for fishing on to his son, Grady Mitchell, who turns 5 this week. "My son likes to sleep, and I wasn't sure how he would feel about waking before the sun was up," Starn said. "Well, let me start by saying, he jumped out of bed already dressed, kissed mommy goodbye and headed for the front door."
The two headed down to the launch ramp and out to the Huntington Flats.

Roy Rose brought Royal Polaris home to Fisherman's Landing July 31 after the annual five-day trip with Taka Tanaka's group. They visited Cedros Island for very good yellowtail fishing and found a few tuna along the way.

He told dock reporter Bill Roecker he caught that one on a sardine and 4/0 Eagle Claw hook tied to 30-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon, 30-pound Izorline and 30-pound Izor Spectra. He used a Talica 20 reel and a Phenix 807 rod tied by Luis at Taka's Tackle.

Fishing on the World Famous EL BUDSTER. The Jeff Harness party from Rudy, AR has a fine day. They catch and release a 110 lb. STRIPED MARLIN. It is caught on a live Caballito. The fighting time was 35 min. They also catch seven YELLOWFIN TUNA ( 15 - 20 - 25 lbs. ). All the fish were caught 14 - 16 miles out from Cabo. The water temp. was 79 - 80 degrees.
Most of you might know Captain Alex who is always ready to take you off on a fantastic fishing experience aboard the 33' Bertram El Nuevo. Well yesterday, after 9 long months his wife gave birth to two little healthy babby girls! All us of at RedRum want to congratulate Alex for "reeling" in those little babies to the world!
Alex's wife had been deeling with some pregnancy problems for the last couple of months, but yesterday after a long wait, the baby girls finally arrived and very healthy, we still don't know what their names are, we'll have to wait for Alex to come back from his week off to let us know all the details! Lets all congratulate Alex for this wonderful news!
Yesterday's fishing was great, We had one customer come in and say that he's never seen the pacific so smoothe. And it's true, even though the pacific side was a bit choppy the last couple of weeks, yesterday it seemed to get back to normal.
It was a warm day out there! So people, if you have an upcoming trip I strongly suggest that you bring sunblock lotion.
From Texas we had Randy Boyd and his crew from CCA. These guys fished aboard El Nuevo with Captain Alex and Mate Manuel. After a full day of fishing they caught 1 Dorado. Hopefully they'll have better luck today while they're out on their second trip.
Another couple from Texas, Christopher Pace and Jodi Hicks, decided to go out on a half day aboard a Panga. They had a great time and caught 2 bonitas. Very nice couple, came in the office with a big smile and left with an even bigger smile. We make it happen!
And last but not least we had a new friend from San Francisco!! Whoo Hoo..... I (heart) SF...as you may probably already know, I am from San Francisco so it gets me all excited to see people from my hometown. Dutch and Sharleen Haarsma along with their little boys who were 4 and 2 yrs of age went out for a full day on ReelRum with Captain Jesus and Mate Edgar. Their final score was 2 Striped Marlin (both C/R) One of them weighed 130 Lbs and the other 90Lbs, they also reeled in 3 Dorado and 1 bonita.
So it wasn't all that bad, it was great! Thank you all for fishing with us
The Options checking in with 9 seabass to 35 pounds today. they also picked some calicos to go with it, butt wait thats not all, listen live for the low down.

MORE BIG TUNA! The big tuna were back this week in the East Cape and lot of them. The week started out with some very nice tuna in the 50-100 pound range, but as the week came to an end, we saw some monsters arrive. From Wednesday to Friday we say tuna come in weighing 120lbs., 130lbs., 165lbs., 170lbs., 180lbs., and the biggest of them all was landed by Richard Kingsmill of Mokelumne Hills, CA, weighing in at a whopping 224lbs. Needless to say, the tuna fishing is wide open. As is the dorado fishing, with boats coming in with limits on both tuna and dorado. The biggest dorado this week weighed in at 52lbs. with many medium size bulls as well. This week in the East Cape the Bisbee tournament took center stage, and it was an incredible tournament with lots of big Blue Marlin landed over the three day event. The first two days saw some nice blues in the 300-370 pound range, but on Friday the winning fish was weighed at approximately 450lbs. The award ceremony will be held tonight, so as of yet I do not have any results. I do know that our own Chucky Van Wormer landed a nice 119lb. yellowfin today while fishing in the Bisbee, but this was not enough to win the biggest tuna award.
Blues were not the only billfish being landed this week. There were over 80 Stripe Marlin and 60 Sailfish landed and released this week as well. In shore we are still seeing lots of medium size roosters, some nice sierras, and Jacks as well. It was another great week in the East Cape, and the best part about it is that the fishing is all happening about 2-3 miles from the hotel. One angler that I spoke with out of Playa Del Sol told me that his boat landed 15 tuna, 8 dorado, a stripe marlin and a sailfish all in one day, and he was back at the hotel before 2pm. Not a bad day on the water. If you don't have plans to be down here this month, it's not too late. Van Wormer Resorts is offering up some great August deals for last minute reservation and the fishing could not be better. Hope to see you down here soon. Until next week! Seaforth Landing checking in this evening with the San Diego on their 3/4 day run with limits of sand bass. Seaforth Landing has a full schedule of trips runing daily. Call 619-224-3383 for trip information and reservations.
Not too much on the Barracuda Front today in the Bay. Meter and sonar plenty of fish but not too eager for whatever reason...
Still time for TWILIGHT on New Del Mar tonight and remember this Barracuda bite started with three nights of Wide Open Barracuda Action before they even caught one in the daylight, so maybe Tonight's The Night For The Big Re-Bite???
Call Jacob for your reservations on the New Del Mar. Twilight tonite at six!!
Everything changes. Our weather took a turn for the worse. We had 18 to 22 knots of breeze most of the day, but that didn't stop the Yellowtail from biting. We had steady action on 18 to 25 pound Yellowtail, with a few going over 30 pounds. The grade of the Yellowtail improved, but the bite slowed some, but was still a good day of fishing. We are now headed north, and we will try for some bottom-fish in the morning, before we head for home.
So until tomorrow, good luck and good fishing, the R/p crew.

After the guys had there way with the great yellowtail fishing Norm pointed the Shogun north, and now we are working our way home.

We arrived on the yellowtail grounds at daylight and it was already blowing about 15 kts. We saw excellent sign of yellows and they started biting right away. We had great fishing all day but paid for it by dealing with 15-30kt winds. Ben Kawata landed the day's largest yellowtail and Karyn Ott picked up one of today's two nice halibut.
Here are some photos from the past week...it's been great fishing! We've got Open Party Dates scheduled for August on:
